A poor kid from the JRZ gets plopped in Reseda and tries to fit in and make something of himself while the wealthier, snobbier natives try to keep him down. That tale is as old as Los Angeles. Throw in Mr. Miyagi, “wax on, wax off” and the Cobra Kai and you get one of the greatest movies ever made. “Strike fast, Strike hard, NO MERCY SIR!”

I first saw three amigos on a recording from a CBS’s “Saturday Night Movie”. I watch it so many time I can still quote the commercials and news clips that played during the breaks! I never consciously thought about FCC content restrictions in the 80′s, so as an adult it was like rediscovering the film all over when I viewed it again after a 10 year hiatus.

Sharon: I remember when I saw Fast Times for the first time, I thought LA must have been the greatest place to live. Having grown up in a beach town on the east coast, all the guys thought they were Spicoli (they weren’t). High School was (portrayed) much different(ly) than what I experienced although our parties were pretty spectacular. I just love everything about this movie and it brings me back to what life felt like as a teen in the 80s.

It reminds me of staying up late watching Kung Fu movies, especially those with Bruce Lee.

Alternate/overflow parking option is across the street at the convention center for $10. Sharon: I was the quintessential 1980′s teenager: Hung out with the Andie/Duckie crowd (all 4 of us). Had crushes on the popular boys. Spent my time listening to music, hanging out in record stores, going to shows and working at various radio stations. I could totally relate to everything that this movie is, including the Psych Furs theme song.

MOVIE: GHOSTBUSTERS MUSIC: MONTE MAR and VINNIE FERRA Doors: 5:30pm \| Band: 7pm \| Movie: 8:30pm Review \| Trailer \| Food Trucks Jeff: I saw it last year at the Arclight when it was playing and knew it would be 10 times better on a 3 1/2 story movie screen – for Mr. Stay Puff alone! Ghostbusters is the only movie I have seen in a theater more than 7 times. It NEVER gets old. “My girlfriend sleeps above the covers….4 FEET above the covers”. Bill Murray. Genius.

After a while I think we’ve managed to turn Friday and Don’t be a Menace… into one long crazy ass movie with all the confusion over what line came from what movie.

It was the first movie my family ever watched together on the (and I date myself here) VCR. Needless to say, Mom was not happy by the time the bedroom scene w. Appolonia came on. The Kid is the kind of flawed, wounded, but redemptive character that always appealed to me and I STILL get teary when those first guitar chords on Purple Rain start.

Sarah: The Princess Bride was a staple in my family’s household. One time we went to an outdoor showing in Seattle (close to where I grew up) and the woman who played the shrieking eel in the film was there. She performed her “shriek” during the respective scene in the film. I was pretty young and thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread.

The Tequila dance, the fashions, the characters, the sense of adventure! And the fact that this movie became a TV show that had a revolving door of “who’s who” actors… The movie is just so much fun!

MOVIE: DAZED & CONFUSED MUSIC: THE LITTLE ONES Doors: 5:30pm \| Band: 7pm \| Movie: 8:30pm Review \| Trailer \| Food Trucks Jeff: As far as I’m concerned this is the best “it happens over a day” film ever made. It never fails to resonate, cause a chuckle or make me nostalgic for a 70′s childhood I didn’t have. It’s the only context that I ever need to hear Aerosmith’s “Sweet Emotion” in. And of course, one of the best lines about high schools ever spoken. :) It surprises me how many people still haven’t scene this film. It is an American classic.

My family and I had the whole thing memorized and would sing along at the top of our lungs every time. Still to this day when that movie comes up, we all start singing in unison.

Drew: I loved seeing films that are shot on location in places where you’ve lived. Being from San Diego, I had to laugh at all the totally inaccurate set ups of my hometown. I especially enjoyed the giant mountain top where Ron & Veronica share a romantic moment in their car, all while the view of downtown at that point of the film geographically puts them right in the middle of a very sea level Coronado Island! Also, I’ve had the hots for Christina Applegate since I saw Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitters Dead at age 12!
