Another weekend, another anniversary! This Saturday, it’s 1984 all over again as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the greatest rock music movie ever made (in our opinion!), Purple Rain starring Prince.
Originally developed to show off Prince’s many talents, Purple Rain quickly became a cult classic and the soundtrack produced two chart-topping singles — “When Doves Cry” and “Let’s Go Crazy” — that are still popular and often covered today. The eponymous single reached #2 on the charts. Purple Rain was also awarded an Oscar for Best Original Song Score in 1985.
Our outdoor movie event in LA will take place at The Autry in Griffith Park. With a large, grassy lawn this is the perfect place to spread out, sit back, enjoy the show and sing along. Plus, all ticketholders will also have free access to some of the museum’s galleries. At the door, you’ll be given a fun event-themed mission to explore the museum and share pictures tagged with @theautry on Instagram and Twitter for the opportunity to win cool prizes!
The Autry is located at 4700 Heritage Way across from the LA Zoo. There is free parking available for the event at the zoo, too. The only entrance to the event is on the main lawn next to the Autry’s main entrance doors. Dogs are welcome, too, and all four-legged friends will get a free doggie biscuit at the door! Make sure you bring enough water, treats and poop bags. Plus the Autry has a café serving beer, wine, soft drinks and a special cocktail for the evening.
The evening will also include a live performance by LA band Chicano Batman. As always, we’ll have a wide selection of food trucks on site all night long including: Baby’s Badass Burgers, Romolo’s, Cambalaches, No Jodas Kitchen, Postcards CAS, CJ’s Wings, Rushed Art, Royal Red Velvet, Coolhaus, Brasil Kiss, and more!
Whether you’re a diehard fan of Prince or just looking for something fun to do in LA this weekend, we can’t wait to see you on Saturday! Grab your tickets now on Eventbrite.
